Letter from Ruby Odenbaugh Kinard. The letter was in response from Linda Lou Parchman of Brinkley High School when she was in the 10th grade in 1952, requesting genealogical facts for a class assignment. Not sure of the date, but Katherine (bold face below indicates her daughter was in second grade, and she was born in 1944 so 1952 is accurate).
“Mon. Eve—At home
Dear Linda Lou,
Received your letter Sat. and have just completed the family tree as far as I can go. You might ask Daddy to give you his Grandma’s and Grandpa’s names, but I doubt seriously if he can give you their birth dates but he might give you the places they were born. Your great grandpa Odenbaugh had 3 brothers, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Rose Odenbaugh but no sisters. Your great grandma Odenbaugh was an only child as her father went off to fight in the Civil War and never returned. Her mother married again and she had some step brothers and sisters among whom was “Uncle Dock” Williams and Aunt Pet Williams Noble who lived in Elko, Nevada. I can remember them all but I know your mamma doesn’t.
Your Great Grandfather Price was married twice—the 1st time to M.J. Price, born Feb. 5, 1836 but place and time of death unknown. Children to them were:
Clarence K. Price born Dec. 12, 1853, unknown death date
Lewis J. Price born March 5, 1855, death date unknown
Theodore U. Price born March 19, 1856 death date unknown
Sarah Genevieve Price born April 16, 1857, died April 15, 1887
Flora C. Price born March 25, 1859, date of death unknown
Fredric Edward Price born April 1, 1861, died Nov. 4, 1861
Madge D. Price born Sept. 10, 1862, unknown death date
Rachel Josephine Price born Aug. 3, 1866, died Aug. 29, 1891
The second time he married Anice Saphronia Baldwin at Albia, Iowa, on April 9, 1882. Children born to them were:
Joe Price, Jr. born Sept. 16, 1883, died June 30, 1884
Kate Price born April 2, 1885
India Leo Price born Oct. 2, 1890 at Gillett, AR
Mamma knew some of her father’s and 1st wife’s children as I can remember Clarence, Theodore, Madge and Rachel, also Flora better known as Aunt Flo. Mamma might write to some of her girls, Mary or Helen, who could give her the dates of some of their deaths as they all used to live around Kansas City, I think.
I hope this is what you want and will be of help to you. I was told today the kid’s school would be out May 28th. You know Katherine is in the 2nd grade this year. They get out Thursday and Friday, too. We got your valentines which the kids look forward to every year like Xmas. We’ve sure had a lot of serious accidents the past 2 or 3 weeks. A school boy 9 years old was killed by a man from Forrest City last week. When he got off the school bus near Wabbaseka. Was a dist. Mgr. of Ark. P & L Co. Will go hard with him I guess as he is said to have not stopped for the bus.
Well, I’d better close and go to bed as it’s 7:30, and I’m sleeping. I’ve been to a Training School meeting at 1st Methodist Church all day to get ready for the vacation Bible School which will be upon us before we know it. Wish you’d come see us sometime. Have any of you heard from Bernice since she went back?
Lot’s of love to all, Aunt Ruby”
